Iowa Players Say The Under Armour Ball Used In Last Night's Game Was "Heavy" So Now We Know Why They Lost
COLLEGE PARK, Md. – To be clear, Iowa players weren’t making excuses about the basketball used during the No. 3 Hawkeyes’ 74-68 loss to No. 8 Maryland at the Xfinity Center. But there’s also no debating that Iowa didn’t shoot well from long range, tying a season low with five made 3-pointers, in its first game this season using an Under Armour brand ball. Maryland, as the home team, gets to choose the game ball. “Yeah, for sure. It feels different. It’s heavy like a street ball, like an outside ball,” Iowa’s Peter Jok said. “No excuses. It does feel weird.”
And there it is. There’s the reason Iowa lost. I wonder how Maryland fans feel having a W that shouldn’t count? Goddamn cheaters is what they are. Using a ball that Iowa had never used before causing them to have the worst shooting game of the season. Shameful shit…………
I can’t do it. I just can’t. I can’t do the thing where information comes out that might’ve-but-absolutely-didn’t affect the outcome of the game and then make it seem like it 100% lost my team the game. Iowa played like shit. It was an ugly ugly game from start to finish. There’s no such thing as a good loss but, if there is, that loss to Maryland was a good loss for Iowa. Jarrod Uthoff didn’t have a single field goal in the first half and Iowa was only down by 6 at half time. Uthoff ended up with only 9 points. It was easily the team’s worst shooting performance of the season and they weren’t out of it until the very end. Even Maryland fans would admit their team didn’t play very well either. Melo Trimble only had 11 points. It was a weird game but to say the ball was too heavy? Maybe it was but that’s not why Iowa lost. And I know that’s not what Peter Jok was saying but it can come off that way. Bottom line, what we watched was two legit top-10 teams who were off their games. I hope these two teams meet again down the road.
